Lunch visitors are permitted to have lunch with their child during their child's scheduled lunch times. Visitors must sit at a visitor tables to the left of the cafeteria after signing in with the security desk. Lunch visitors may bring their own child food, but may not share any food with any other students.
If your child would like to invite one friend to sit with them they may, however, no more than one.
Please respect our No Photo Rule in the Cafeteria for the confidentiality of all of our students.
Food / Celebrations
Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) considers the care of students a top priority and seeks to work with parents/legal guardians to manage life threatening food allergies and other special dietary needs of the student.
VBCPS is committed to ensuring that all foods and beverages available to students on the school campus during the school day support healthy eating. It is recommended foods offered on the school campus meet or exceed the USDA Smart Snacks in School guidance. These include snacks for celebrations or classroom snacks provided by staff or parents/legal guardians.
Shared food is only permitted for celebrations/recognitions. Food will not be shared during daily events like lunches. All parents/legal guardians, volunteers and students wanting to bring outside food into the school to be shared with other students must receive prior approval from the teacher and must adhere to the following guidelines:
- It is recommended all foods and beverages be selected from the “Healthy Snack and Beverage Ideas” on the Office of Food Services website.
- Outside food and beverages to be shared with students must be pre-approved by your school at least two days prior to the celebration event.
- All items being served must be bought and must remain in the original sealed container with the manufacturer label intact (from the store).
Further details regarding USDA Smart Snacks can be found on the following website: https://fns-prod.azureedge.us/sites/default/files/resource-files/smartsnacks.pdf

VBCPS Cell Phone Policy Update
Should students need to contact a parent or guardian, they should use the main office phone. The information about this policy update can be found on VBschools.com. Thank you for playing an important and supportive role to ensure a highly engaged, student-centered learning environment for all students. (Source: Dr. Reddy)
Safety Reminders and Drills
Safety remains a top priority at Princess Anne ES. We ask that all visitors assist us by clearly stating their name and purpose when communicating through the speaker phone. Additionally, all visitors and volunteers must present a picture ID in order to obtain a visitor or volunteer badge. Lunch visitors are only authorized to visit the cafeteria and should report directly back to the security desk at the conclusion of lunch. Volunteers should remain in their assigned work area while in the building and should also report back to the security desk when exiting. All visitors and volunteers should enter and exit the building through the main entrance.
Additionally, students will be participating in several safety drills to ensure students and staff are prepared in the event of a true emergency. Students will practice fire drills weekly for the first four weeks of school. Once we reach October, evacuation drills will be conducted on a monthly basis. We will also practice a lockdown drill in September. Our teachers will carefully explain that this is a drill so as to avoid any unnecessary anxiety for students. For safety reasons, we don't announce the exact time and location of a drill, but we will let parents know the day before a lockdown drill in case parents want to discuss the drill with their child ahead of time.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation in adhering to our safety procedures as we work to do all we can to keep students and staff safe while at school. (Source: Dr. Reddy)
PAES Student Arrival & Dismissal Policy 2024-2025
In order to create and promote a safe environment and maximize instructional time at Princess Anne Elementary School, the following procedures for arrival and dismissal will be followed:
Transportation Changes:
Please maintain open lines of communication with your child's teacher and the office staff. All transportation changes must be submitted in writing. Please complete the transportation change note and send it in with your child to school or drop it off at the front desk prior to 2:15 p.m. on the day of the change.
Transportation changes will only be accepted via note/email prior to 2:15 p.m. to ensure your child's safety. Because there are times when teachers are out and a substitute is filling in, teacher email is not a reliable form of communication. Please use the email paes@vbschools.com to communicate a change in transportation home.
In the event a student needs to leave school early, the student is only able to leave with a parent, guardian, or person on the emergency contact list. In cases where someone other than the parent or guardian will be picking up your child, please inform the school in writing. Identification is required for any individual picking up a student.
If you need to pick your child up early from school, please plan to do so prior to 2:45 p.m. If you arrive after 2:45 p.m., you will be asked to join the Parent Pick Up process, which begins with student dismissal at 3:15 p.m.
Parent Drop Off Procedures
If a parent/guardian chooses to bring their child to school, the children are allowed in the school beginning at 8:25 a.m. Students should not be dropped off prior to 8:25 a.m. as there is not supervision available before this time. Parents are asked to follow the traffic pattern shown on the map. Please DO NOT start lining up before 8:25 a.m. We must have room for staff to be able to get into the lot and park.
During parent drop off, parents will drive all the way along the line and stop at the "star" on the map. We will have multiple staff members opening the car doors, and monitoring, so students can safely walk along the sidewalk and into the side entrance of the school. We will begin our parent drop off procedures at 8:25 a.m. and continue until the bell rings at 8:45 a.m. If you arrive after 8:45 a.m., you will need to park and bring your child(ren) inside to the front security desk to sign them into school.
When exiting the property after dropping off your child(ren), you will have to take a right turn only. There is a city sign informing you that you can only turn right between 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. As a reminder, Special Operations and Emergency Vehicles are housed down Leroy Road, so it is imperative that we maintain a steady flow of traffic and not create gridlock on Seaboard Road.
Parent Pick Up Procedures
If you are an everyday Parent Pick Up, you will need a yellow placard (made by our front office) and display it on the front of your car windshield. This will serve as your ID to pick up your child(ren). You will need to present your ID to someone in the main office to receive your 2 placards prior to the first day of school. Pick up time will be 3:15 p.m.-3:35 p.m.
If you arrive prior to your pick up time, you will be asked to turn around and park until your allotted pick up time.
- When you arrive on campus, drive towards the gym to the back of the school.
- You will need to stop at the end of the "line" where a staff member will see your placard and radio to staff in the gym that you have arrived.
- You will then be asked to continue along the line (on the map) and stop at the star. A staff member will ensure your child gets in your car safely.
- If you are not an everyday Parent Pick Up, please send a note or email the school before 2:15 p.m. to notify us of the change and then follow the above procedure. When you get to the end of the "line" (see map), a staff member will radio to ensure we have received a note informing us of the change in student transportation. Once confirmed, we will have your student sent out for pick up. We must receive notification of the change, in writing, prior to 2:15 p.m. on the day the change takes place. If we did not receive a note, you will be asked to park and go to the main office for assistance.
- In the event a student needs to leave school early, the student is only able to leave with a parent, guardian, or person from the child's emergency contact list. In cases where someone other than the parent or guardian will be picking up your child, please inform the school in writing. Identification is required for any individual picking up a student.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe arrival and dismissal process.
